Dr. Schickedanz is a founder and Co-Chair of the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (LAC-DHS) Geriatrics Workgroup, Chair of the Department of Family Medicine at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, faculty of the UCLA School of Medicine, and a Family Physician-Geriatrician primary care provider.
In her current position, Dr. Schickendanz oversees a large family health center and multiple service lines, including inpatient service, home based care, specialty-primary care, and full spectrum family care including perinatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, behavioral, mental health and geriatric care. We were a key pilot site for ACEs Aware-LA and continually seek to be at the leading edge of holistic care programs. Dr. Schickendanzwill serves as both a study co-investigator and the Family Medicine site lead for the Dementia Aware project.
Dr. Schickendanz has worked extensively with the Dementia Aware leads and leadership across the geriatrics and primary care infrastructure at UCLA and LAC-DHS. Beyond her role as a clinician, Dr. Schickendanz has been deeply involved in the development and implementation of collaborative programs for workforce education and program implementation in geriatrics and primary care.
Dr. Schickendanz professional passion is for geriatrics and dementia care, primary care and workforce education, and developing interprofessional care teams to better serve marginalized populations. After completing her medical training, fellowship in primary care health policy, Family and Community Residency, and Clinical Geriatrics Fellowship at UCSF, she joined the UCLA Division of Geriatrics as a clinician educator in 2014. Dr. Schickendanz was instrumental in teaching and disseminating the California Geriatric Education Center (CGEC) team-based interprofessional competency training in dementia workshops. In 2015, Dr. Schickendanz was recruited to serve as the Director of Primary Care at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, where she facilitated large scale interprofessional quality improvement
